Timeless vintage brands #1 Utz chips

Timeless vintage brands: utz chips

Some times ago, while I was watching an episode of Mad Men - a TV series sets in 1960s that tells about a fiction advertising company called Sterling & Cooper - I get a huge inspiration. More than to follow passionately the story of its controversial characters (such as the charming Don Draper) and to have good cues about the hypocrisies of a society such as the 1960s' one, this series is for me a continuous source of historical knowledge about logos and brands. Some of them are for me simply wonderful for their cuteness and grace, a kind of quintessence of how a logo should be. For instance, I discovered the logo of Utz chips: I had never seen it before, nor ever tried them, but the little girl who represents is really modern, able to express a high grade of simplification that is, using Leonardo da Vinci's words, the "ultimate form of sophistication". And my idea was that: to open a little space in this blog in which I show hand carved rubber stamps inspired directly from timeless vintage brands...

Treasures of Paris #1. Le Petit Atelier de Paris

Le Petit Atelier de Paris

It's true, Paris is a continuous discovery for me! It happens often me, even after a lot of time since I moved here, to stumble upon little treasures... as in those days in which, while wandering aimlessly, I find myself walking around, getting lost in hidden little streets of this town... and it is during one of these explorations that I've found a ravishing boutique-atelier, which I want to share with you because I believe it is a magic and special place. And in the case you are in Paris (or you're planning to visit it), I think it would be a pity to not pop in and see it! This place is "Le Petit Atelier de Paris"...

Le Petit Atelier is like the paradise for all lovers of porcelain and wood; two young designers, Jae and Stéphane, craft amazing handmade creations, under the precious supervision of Pompon, the photogenic dog-mascotte of their workshop. The core concept of the Petit Atelier is to provide delicate and original items for making more pleasant our daily life: if beauty can ameliorate our sensations, these cups, mugs, little bells, dishes and decorations for home, with their simple and dreaming design, are really a source of well-being! Furthermore, what renders these items very special is also the fact that their are all unique: as they're handmade, you'll never find two identical ones!

Another interesting feature of this workspace is the fact that they organise collaborations with other artists, who are invited to make together with the Petit Atelier their items. After "Animobile” conceived jointly with Emi Yatsuzaki, “Petit Bonhomme” with Eiko Maekawa, “Atelier N.M.” with Sylvain Bénéteau, “Rabit in the Desert” with Sylvie Auray, “Night Tales” with Iris de Mouy, in these days (and until 19th fev.) the Petit Atelier is exposing "House of MiCha", with Kuntzel + Deygas. They are also the creators of Caperino and Peperone, two amazing characters that, with my great surprise, I discovered being also wonderful hand carved rubber stamps!
"House of MiCha" until 19th feb., open from thu. to sat., 13h00-20h00. Le Petit Atelier de Paris, 31 rue de Montmorency, 75003, Paris. For infos www.lepetitatelierdeparis.com

Express yourself. With hand carved stamps!

Alphabet letters hand carved rubber stamps!

During last days, I've achieved my personal Gutenberg's revolution, even if in a much littler scale. I've indeed reproduced the whole alphabet with stamps, not for inventing the modern edition industry, but with the smaller idea to use later these hand carved letters to formulate phrases to let other people know about my wishes and my tastes....

And I find that it is very useful because, for instance, if I want to show my love for chocolate I can avoid to come out, as usual, with a can of cacao powder and use in its place a brooch with stamped upon "J'adore le chocolat!" ;) ...

Message brooch. Customisable with hand carved rubber stamps alphabet letters

This brooch is available on my etsy, but if you like to have your own custom letter brooch, it's sufficient to let me know with an e-mail: I will create promptly a brooch able to express your ideas!
