Mr. Little Drop: a totem against the shitty Paris weather

Since Paris's weather is doing its "utmost" during last days in terms of quick swinging between hot sun and cold showers, I decided that it was the time to create a new totem against rain! Here's I am pleased to introduce you Mr. Little Drop, also know as "Gocciolino"

Hoping that some durable sun (but not too hot!) will come soon and that, by this way, I will stop to be overtake (always without umbrella, of course) by the rain and to get cold. Plaster coloring bear

Sometime ago I posted about the Petits Oursons Gimauves, the marshmallow bears covered by chocolate that are almost a flag snack here in France. This time, I took decision to produce some plaster Oursons molding them with the help of a special silicon molder: from being a snack during afternoons passed over books, they now become toys to be customized with your favorite colors and hanged besides your pictures on the wall or exposed on your shelves. Rêves d'enfance

Few days ago is born Babiekins, a new online magazine focused on all things trendy in a little one’s world, and I’m very glad to present it here because I definitively love it very much and because I am proud to have contribute to it with some drawings! The magazine is created by Priscila, a very busy and cute mom, author of a popular baby blog, who invented the word Babiekins to call anyone and everyone dear to her. Her hope is that this magazine can encourage, inspire and motivate the trendy parent and child alike. And I guess she’s reached this goal, because this mag is absolutely inspiring with dreaming atmospheres and cutest items without forgetting a lot of handmade ones.

And as we are talking about children, I decided to sew a set of functional plastic bibs provided with a cute pocket with a felt puppet inside that transform the baby-feeding time in a really funny game. As you can see in the photos, in order to make even more special my bibs, I stamped on the fabric some hand-carved rubber stamps in theme with the felt character (hand made too) in the pocket. I hope you enjoy them!

A very special Teru Bōzu against the season rain

Teru-teru-bōzu, teru bozu

But if it's cloudy and you are crying

Then I shall snip your head off

So recite a famous Japanese nursery rhyme, whose protagonist is just the Teru Bōzu, a little traditional doll of Japanese folklore entirely handmade with the white paper or cloth, and whose purpose is to serve as an amulet to prevent rainy days and invoke the good weather.

Here in Paris, during last days weather was not sunny at all, with a lot of clouds and some rain showers... so to get sun I has no choice but to put aside all scepticism and to to turn me too to use this doll... here it is my newborn Teru Bōzu; it has still to be tested to see if its power to scare to death Amefushi - the spirit of rain - is real, but I must admit that even if it fails to fulfil this duty I could never snip its head off as the nursery rhyme says at the end... it is really too cute to be beheaded!

For the moment I am just hanging at the window and even though the weather outside is still cloudy, I’m glad to have at home a new sweet friend who, at worst, will keep me company in these dull rainy days!

If you also want to build your Teru Bōzu you have only cover a spherical object which will become the head of your doll (you can use for example a ping pong or tennis ball or some simple cotton) with a square of cloth or white paper, to be fixed with a ribbon. Then, you can draw eyes, nose and mouth.

Voilà, la Galette des Rois!

Walking around Paris in this period, you can find that every boulangerie, more than usual delicacies, is actually showing in the shop window a round and golden cake with a paper crown on its top... It is the "Galette des Rois"! This cake is usually eaten the 6th january, for the Epiphany, but French people starts to make it (and eat it) since the starting of Xmas holidays...

The Galette is a golden pastry cake filled with an almond cream called frangipane, but what's original about it is that the baker put a small china called la fève. Back in the day, a dry fava bean was used instead of a figurine. The fève is baked into the cake, and the person who finds it in his slice becomes King or Queen for the day and His or Her majesty has to dress the paper crown!! What a honour, but pay attention to your teeth....

As I find it, more than delicious, very cute, I took decision to make me too a Galette but in felt and without forgetting to put inside an authentic fève... voilà!

Smells like tiny puppy!

Here 's four new little friends: my softy tiny puppies! More than being a great fun to made, this is my personal tribute to all dogs, these tender and faithful pals, that I love very much. I've done the breeds that I find the most bisarre, I hope that they could find someone who wants to adopt them!

More and more mushrooms! This time into the jampot!

I love these little mushrooms. For keeping all their sweetness, I've taken the decision to put them under glass, into a a jam jar. In addition to embellish your shelves, their magic will make you lucky and happy!

... and for remaining on the topic of mushrooms, here you can find some other very sweet brooches; under a coloured hood, three little friends are hiding themselves, longing for adorning whatever you would like to hang them on to accompany you everywhere! Among all these mushrooms, a little and greedy bee peeps out just because here on MemiTheRainbow's blog the sweetness always rules!!

These brooches are hand crafted in felt by me and in the back they are attached to metal pin back. The little mushrooms in the jar are in felt and handcrafted by me as well, the jars are made in glass.
